Hey Monkeychoke Just got done watching it, I agree pretty great card. Thngs that stood out for me were: Matt Brown - savage guy and relentless striker but his 6 wins on the bounce doesn't tell the whole tale; he's lost 4 of his last 10 by submission so calling out one of the greatest grapplers of all time (GSP) might be a bit short-sighted! Travis Browne - a lotta heart but also a good pinch of luck. I think a lot of refs would have stopped that fight, and Overeem looked totally spent after trying to finish him, meaning he was wide open. Still, showed a lot of balls but again he called out the champ (Cain) but I think he'd look exposed against a crisp striker with a good gas tank like Cain or Junior. Chael - I can't believe he was a big underdog going in. Shogun is super tough and durable but cardio has been an issue in his later fights & I thought Chaels relentless GnP style would wear him out quick, although it was faster than I imagined! I hate Chaels wannabe-Ali rhyming monologues after fights though - he's plenty engaging when he's just being honest and articulate. The overly-rehearsed rhyming shit just lacks too much spontaneity for me. EDIT - much more sensible call-out by Chael though, I think he'll run through Wandy in very much the same way as Shogun. |

Afternoon All Benny; You're right on Chael, Wand is probably as burnt out as Rua now, once greats, now they just don't have it. Similar to Ortiz now I suppose. I wonder whether the Wandy call-out was some sort of red herring, you never know with Chael right. I agree, he annoys me a little, but I don't think he's taking himself seriously, in which case it's funny. As for the overeem browne fight, I think overeem more than deserved that loss, he has no chin left on him but acts like he's gods gift. Those knees are clearly horrible but for him to knock reem out says a lot about how bad his chin is, the result of several huge knockouts I guess. I was a little disappointed Lauzon lost but it was a tremendous performance, really deserved it so fair play. I know what Dana White says about Hall not being a fighter, but holy cow he has some incredible speed on him. Although it was a bit odd how he kept hi-5ing, I really enjoy watching him in the cage, he's an absolute specimen….even if he did loose to Rousey heh. |

monkeychokeNo I don't think so - when Chael was really taunting Andy Silver in the build up to the 2nd fight (saying that Brazilians hadn't heard of Internet and that Big Nog thought a bus was a donkey and tried to feed it a carrot cos they didnt have them in Brazil etc etc) Wandy was outspoken saying he hated Chael etc and they had a twitter ‘feud’ for a while too I think…I think Chael sees it as a pretty easy fight and a big payday due to the beef and the big name. Agree re. Lauzon, I love that guy. Always brings maximum heart an has some great jits. Johnsons speed and footwork looked outstanding though compared to previous outings. |
