it's worth a look, plenty of heart shown by a couple of fighters that REALLY helped them prevail. and the most charming american gangster tries his luck at getting a fight against another Brazilian

Yeah if you find the time Bolelli it's definitely a card worth watching, in my opinion of course.

just watched McGregor vs. Holloway
mcgregor hurt his leg during the 2nd round, he usually looks way more impressive, still a strong performance, and he was ashamed of it, he holds his own standards so high it's inspiring

Yeah I just saw that now - McGregor is a monster, love his style. Look forward to seeing more of him.

For me, to really like a fighter I have to like their personality or, at the very least, not be aware of any specific cuntyness.

Often this really comes to light if they are a coach on TUF. Matt Hughes is a good example, so was Ken Shamrock. Both talented, legendary fighters but came across as total dickheads as coaches. BTW no, I would not say that to either of their faces! Koschek was one who was a nobhead in real life on TUF too although this was somewhat less surprising to me.

On the other hand there are fighters who I already liked that I loved after they coached TUF. Big Nog and Junior Cigano are probably the best examples of that - both those guys are the biggest sweethearts you could hope to meet. GSP was super honest and humble too (although his recent 25min lay-and-pray wins are wearing a bit thin).

One of the most enjoyable ones for me was Chael Sonnen. Before TUF I was NOT a fan and was jumping in the air when Andy Silver finished him in their 2nd fight. But the great thing about a show that lasts so long is that you cannot maintain a false personality the whole way through, and Chaels trash talking and WWE promotional style fell away to reveal an honest, intelligent and sometimes vulnerable guy who really cared for his fighters. Im a fan after that.

I love GSPs 25 minute bouts, he's a master, an absolute artist - I think he's under-appreciated because he hasn't had a load of knockouts a la Silva. He's an intensely intelligent fighter and I love seeing how he approaches different styles. Perhaps the danger of Hendricks' power will necessitate a quicker finish from him….we'll see. I just read his new book and was an excellent read. Really well put together and by no means just a shitty sports autobiography. Highly recommended. And yes, I am a GSP fan hah; he's a fucking inspiration.

GSP has almost all the ingredients for me to love him as a fighter - he's honest and humble and cool, his athleticism and dedication are clearly unparalleled but I find it really hard to commit my full ballsack of man-crush-love to any fighters whose game is wrestling-dominant.

I way prefer the style used by a lot of brazilians where they are great boxers and/or Muay Thai guys on the feet and are submission-focused on the ground. I don't enjoy watching huge wrestlers make massive weight cuts then lie on top of smaller opponents without trying for subs.

GSP isn't as one-dimensional as that, obviously and I do like him but these days it seems to me he is missing that drive to finish that I find exciting to watch…guys like Sergio Moraes or Roni Yaya are who I really like to see on the mat.
