Local community?

Hi all! I am wondering if there are any listeners in the walla walla WA/ Pendleton OR area. I have a half acre on which I have lived for 18 years and have used no chemical fertilizers herbicides or insecticides (save the very occasional use of wasp spray aimed directly at yellowjacket nests). I'm vermicomposting, fishing, raising organic veggies and forage to feed my organically raised meat bunnies. I have formed an economic partnership w a couple other folks in the valley who have other things to barter. The spirit of the community I am hoping to form is based not just on decreased reliance on cash and sharing of resources but also equally on community-mindedness. We are all here to take care of each other. This is all in the infancy stage so it's important it be formed not as another us v them self-serving group, but one whose goal is to be of benefit to anyone in need, once the foundation of the group is in place and in a position to help. Anyone out there have similar dreams? I recently read that the best “first-responder” vehicle may be a motorcycle. Check. I have the bike and 12 years in veterinary medicine. It is something that is not needed in my area at the moment, but I can forsee how having that to offer might help someone some day. I can sew up a storm and I'm very entertaining. Also quite mechanically inclined. Tell me there's someone else with similar ideas looking for connections and a way to share resources and ideas. The DT listenership seems like a great place to start. I put emphasis on local but would love to hear from anyone out there who's inspired to talk about it.
