Rock shows during a Phoenix work trip

My company is sending me to Phoenix for a month, and I’m already wondering how I’m going to fill the evenings after work. Going straight from the office to the hotel every night sounds like a good way to die of boredom. I’d like to get out for at least a couple of rock concerts while I’m there, either touring bands or smaller club shows. How often do rock bands come through Phoenix, and where can I see what’s happening during the exact dates of my trip?

A month should give you plenty to choose from, because Phoenix gets touring bands and smaller rock bills throughout the week. The Van Buren is worth watching for bigger touring acts, while Crescent Ballroom and The Rebel Lounge usually have more club-sized shows across indie, punk, and heavier styles. Check their calendars once your work dates are set, since good weeknight shows can be easy to miss when you only look at Friday and Saturday. You should be able to find two nights that don’t collide with meetings.

Your work calendar will probably decide more than the day of the week, so it helps to see the whole month in one place before choosing anything. That also keeps you from checking every club separately and missing a band at a venue you didn’t know about. You can check the rock concerts Phoenix calendar here https://myrockshows.com/location/198-phoenix-az/ . Save two or three shows in different weeks, since client dinners and late meetings can land on the evening you planned for yourself. That leaves you with a backup and still gives you a real night out during the trip.
