Let me begin with some sound advice for everyone; go to a Michael Franti concert any/every chance you get! This may not be news to some, because if you have seen him play live before you already know how special it is. The entire experience is monumental, euphoric, and unforgettable. The first time I saw Michael Franti in concert he left me stunned & almost baffled by juggling a soccer ball while playing, and each and every song was filled with incredible meaning. What I want to write about in this post is the most recent experience I had at a Franti show, just this last Friday (6/12/15) and the reason why I found myself to be quite fortunate. Upon entering the concert location my friends and I went to the back of the crowd to get a feel for where there would be less people packed together. While we were hanging back and waiting to grab a beer I was invited to share in a high-five with a stranger that liked my shirt. It is a very common occurrence for me to share in high-fives/hugs/dances with strangers (new friends) while I'm out at a concert, it really makes for a great time if you can befriend all those around you. So after I thanked the random guy for his appreciating my shirt we headed into the crowd to get ready for the fun to come. I would not have added the information about a random high-five had it not been the catalyst to my fortuitous run in with Michael Franti himself! While Franti was performing he would come down into the crowd, and he had a couple locations set up with smaller stages for him to get up on, those were within the crowd too. It was quite magical when you would get into a groove, dancing so wildly that you lost sight of Michael, then you would turn around and spot him somewhere new. It was in one of these moments that I spotted someone with a cool SuperMario green mushroom necklace, and I was compelled to grab it and let the guy who was wearing it know how much I liked it; to my utter surprise it was the same guy that gave me my first high-five of the day! When he said thanks we made eye contact, and immediately we both recognized that we had interacted earlier; so we shared a hug and I started chatting with him, both of us rather excited by the random synchronicity of running into each other with the hundreds of others all around. Our conversation had me turned around and I had my back to the stage at this point, just then I felt the crowd around me separating. I turned back towards the front (where the crowd had just split) and here comes Michael Franti walking right at me, I had only enough time to put up my left hand and share in an awesome high-five with the very man that was currently singing! It all seemed to play out as if orchestrated to do so, and I will never forget it. So remember to give as many strangers love as you are able, it will come back around! And let me reiterate, GO SEE MICHAEL FRANTI LIVE!!! Be well everyone |
