Coursera - Heard of it? A Couple History Classes...
|
I've recently completed a guitar and music production course Berklee College of Music classes through Coursera.com which offers free online college level courses offered by a variety of well known colleges on a plethora of disciplines that some of you may or may not find interesting.
There are a couple History related classes that I recently signed up for that caught my attention considering the context of The Drunken Taoist Podcast.
The first is:
A Brief History of Humankind by Dr. Yuval Noah Harari of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem
It begins on July 7th and the course surveys the entire length of human history, from the evolution of various human species in the Stone Age up to the political and technological revolutions of the twenty-first century
You can find more details about it at: https://www.coursera.org/course/humankind
The Second is:
A History of the World Since 1300 by Jeremy Adelman of Princeton University
It begins on September 15h and the course will examine the ways in which the world has grown more integrated yet more divided over the past 700 years.
There is “recommended” textbook which is quite pricey. I may take the class but not use the textbook which I think may be a mistake.
You can find more details about it at: https://www.coursera.org/course/wh1300
Enjoy,
Steven
