Thoughts on audio/recording quality

A previous question was asked about what the purpose of this forum (Recording) really is. I voiced a bit of why it exists in that topic, but I wanted to go a step further and actually ask the listeners what they thought about the recording quality of the show. We want Daniele's beautiful Italian voice to be heard in the most eardrum-soothing of ways, but it's not always apparent to us since we're mostly concerned with the episode itself.
Can we do better? We do this on a shoe-string budget, but maybe there's ways to kick it up a notch, if you know what I mean.

||I've listened to every one of the DTPs and have found the audio quality to be pretty good. I've never had difficulty understanding what anyone said. Very little attenuation there.|

||sound quality is good, even the skype with Dan Carlin was probably the best phone-in podcasts I've ever heard from a podcast. But the sound effects.. c'mon, that shits gotta go.|
